Most guides to Mediavine requirements still say it needs 50,000 sessions, and that Raptive needs 100,000 pageviews. Both numbers are out of date. We checked the networks' own pages in October 2026, and this is the current picture, with what it means for a food blog.
Requirements change often, so treat this as a snapshot and confirm on the official pages before you apply.
Mediavine requirements in 2026
Mediavine's own requirements page says that to apply, your site should generate at least $5,000 in annual ad revenue. That is about $417 a month. It no longer centers on a session count, even though many older articles still repeat the 50,000-session rule.
If you aren't at $5,000 yet, Mediavine points you to Journey, its on-ramp for growing sites. According to Mediavine, Journey requires 1,000 premium sessions per month, meaning traffic from premium ad markets like the United States, United Kingdom, Canada and Australia. There is no ad revenue minimum to apply, and both programs now share a single application.
Mediavine says it reviews four things: original, audience-first content, clean and human brand-safe traffic, good standing with Google AdSense and Ad Exchange, and a reader experience that leaves room for premium ads. You can read its approval guide for the details.
Raptive requirements in 2026
In October 2025 Raptive lowered its minimum from 100,000 to 25,000 monthly pageviews and ended its Rise pilot. According to Raptive's application page, the requirements depend on your traffic.
For sites with 25,000 to 99,999 pageviews a month:
- At least 50% of your traffic comes from the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, New Zealand and/or Australia.
- Long-form content on the majority of pages.
- High-quality, original content with meaningful human involvement.
- A site build that makes it easy to add, configure and manage ads.
- Google Analytics set up correctly.
- A domain that is at least 6 months old.
At 100,000 pageviews and above, the traffic requirement drops to 40% from those countries, and the rest still applies except the ad-friendly build and the long-form rule. Raptive also pays 75% of ad revenue on a Net 45 schedule.
The ladder at a glance
| Program | Entry bar | What else they look at |
|---|---|---|
| Journey by Mediavine | 1,000 premium sessions a month, no revenue minimum | Traffic from premium markets, original content, clean traffic |
| Raptive | 25,000 pageviews a month | 50% of traffic from five countries, domain 6+ months old, long-form original content |
| Mediavine | $5,000+ in annual ad revenue | Original content, clean traffic, AdSense standing, ad-friendly design |
How much traffic is $5,000 a year?
It depends on your RPM, which is the ad revenue you earn per 1,000 pageviews. $5,000 a year is about $417 a month, so the pageviews you need are $417 divided by your RPM, times 1,000. Here is the arithmetic for a few RPMs:
| If your RPM is | Monthly pageviews needed for $5,000 a year |
|---|---|
| $10 | about 41,700 |
| $15 | about 27,800 |
| $20 | about 20,800 |
| $25 | about 16,700 |
| $30 | about 13,900 |
These are illustrations, not forecasts. Your real RPM depends on your niche, where your readers live and the network you use, and you only learn it once ads are running. This is also why Journey is useful: it lets you start earning, and see your real numbers, before you reach that $5,000.
What this means for your content plan
- Check your traffic by country first. Both programs care about premium markets. Open your Google Analytics country report before you decide where to aim.
- Depth beats one-off posts. Reaching 25,000 pageviews rarely comes from a single viral recipe. Covering a topic with connected posts is the idea behind a content cluster. Nobody can promise the traffic, but it is a sturdier base than scattered posts.
- Show real human work. Raptive asks for meaningful human involvement, and Mediavine asks for original, audience-first content. Your own photos, testing notes and fixes help, as we cover in our food photography tips for recipe bloggers.
- Don't rely on Google alone. Search referrals are shrinking for small sites, as we explain in our post on zero-click searches and in our look at AI search. Pinterest and email help, and our guide to Pinterest pin size is a good place to start.
A quick checklist before you apply
- Confirm the current Mediavine requirements and Raptive requirements on each network's own page, not on a blog post (including this one).
- Check that Google Analytics is installed once and counting correctly.
- Look at your country split and your last three to six months of traffic.
- For Raptive, make sure your domain is at least 6 months old.
- Make sure your pages read like a person wrote them, with original photos and real testing notes.
